Last week, in my travels around the web, I read an interview with an author said that she wrote every morning from 9 to noon. (I wish I knew who this was or where I read it, but I can't remember.) This struck me like a thunderbolt. Bad cliche, sorry, but it did. I realized that if I put myself on a schedule like that, I'd actually get my writing done.
Excellent article...
Scheduling your writing time is essential. Otherwise it won't happen. Even if you're a full-time writer, "urgent" things win out over your writing, which you can always do "tomorrow."
I finally convinced myself to schedule everything (even social get-togethers), when I worked out how much half an hour's non-work-related chatter on the phone cost me. Yep, half my hourly rate. I enjoy chatting with friends, but not in working hours.
Of course, your loved ones love to derail your schedule. You'll need to train them that when you're writing, you're working.
Thanks for mentioning my post, Angela!
