Do you tweet? Twitter can help your freelance writing career, so if you're not tweeting, it's time to start. In this article we'll look at five reasons to tweet.
Firstly, if you're not familiar with Twitter, let's discuss what Twitter actually is. Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging tool, which has many different uses.
People use Twitter in many various ways depending on their own goals. Of course, they also use Twitter just to have fun.
(For information on how to get writing jobs fast with Twitter, listen to my podcast.)
Here's why you should tweet.
1. Twitter Increases Your Online "Reach"
The biggest benefit of Twitter is that it increases your visibility online. To get freelance writing jobs, not only do potential buyers need to be aware of you as a writer, they also need to know what you write, and something about you.
This builds trust. Unfortunately trust is necessary online: all potential buyers of your writing have been burned by "writers" who either couldn't write, or who took the buyers' money and didn't deliver.
2. Twitter Helps You to Make Connections and Contact People Fast
Once people know you exist, and what you write, they need a way to get in touch with you -- fast.
Like most freelance writers who are visible online, I get many offers of writing gigs which I don't have the time to accept. (Note: lots of job offers are a benefit of online reach.) So if I'm aware of you, and that you might be a good fit with someone who needs a writer, I'll let you know, often via Twitter. (You can Follow Me on Twitter.)
Twitter connects you with others, and the more connections you have, the more income you'll make from your writing.
3. You Can Use Twitter As a Newsletter
If you're a freelance writer, you need a Web site and blog. Once you're established, you need a way to follow up with clients: a newsletter.
Newsletters take time however, and in lieu of a newsletter, use Twitter. Clients are reminded that you're a writer, and when they need you, they'll remember you.
4. Twitter Helps You to Build Buzz for Your Blog
You can get instant traffic to your blog, by tweeting your blog posts. Twitter is a great way to kick start a new blog, and build buzz for an established one.
5. You're Too Lazy to Blog, but Want Some of the Benefits
Twitter is a "micro" blogging tool. If you're working a day job, you probably don't have the time to blog consistently. Use Twitter instead, and you'll get some of the benefits of blogging without the commitment in time.
Write more - become a pro writer
Yes, you can write more and become an expert writer - even if you're a world-class procrastinator.
Did you know that when you write more, your writing improves? Many of my writing students experience this. They find that when they write more, writing is easier for them - they're not dominated by their inner editor.
My new writing class, "Write More And Make More Money From Your Writing: Develop A Fast, Fun Productive Writing Process" is based on lessons I developed for my private coaching students to help them to write more, improve their writing, and make more money writing.
If you're struggling with your writing, the class will help. The techniques you'll learn in class with help you write fiction, nonfiction, and copy for business.
Discover how you can write more, improve your writing, and sell more of your writing to higher-paying markets.
