Strictly speaking, this week's technique isn't a writing technique - it's doodling. Please don't wince - I'm no artist, and you don't have to be either, to get this technique to work for you.
The Enchanted Mind has a great piece "DOODLING AS A CREATIVE PROCESS" to give you more information on doodling. One point I heartily endorse:
Those who seek to nurture the creative process need various ways to tap the unconscious mind. Doodling is a simple easy technique that can be practiced daily.I doodle in my Moleskine notebooks, using pencils and colouring pencils; some pages look like illuminated manuscripts.
The benefits of doodling
Doodling shuts down your inner dialogue. If you've got an over-active inner editor, doodling shuts him up. :-) Doodling and the drawing of mandalas have been used as art therapy - think of your doodles as creative therapy. I find that on days I "drop out" and spend ten minutes just doodling, I'm much happier, much more relaxed - and I write more.
Doodle. It's good for you.
