In this week's Fab Freelance Writing Ezine we discuss "flipping" Web sites. This is a completely new strategy to earn freelance income.
You can op for a fast sale, selling a brand new site for around $100, or you can let the site age, and earn considerably more. One writer sold a 15-page site for high five figures.
Here's an excerpt from the Editorial:
If you're a new freelance writer, you have unlimited opportunities, particularly when it comes to writing for the Web. If I were starting out today, I'd focus strictly on the Web.So this week our article is "Write and Flip – Create a Web Site and Sell It", which discusses creating Web sites in order to sell them immediately, or after they've started making an income. There are two primary reasons I'd do that:
1. All publications are moving to the Web – it's simply cheaper, and as the technology improves and with fuel price increases, plus global warming fears, making paper products less profitable and ethical, the rush of publications to the Web will speed up; and
2. I like to get paid fast. :-) Fast payment is essential for freelancers, because we're always worried about our cash flow. When you write for Web sites (or write Web sites in order to sell them, as we're discussing in this issue), you get paid as soon as you complete the article, report, or Web site. In the print world, you can wait months for payment; this is great for magazines, but it's a real pain for writers.

If you want to develop a great home-based writing business, you can. The demand for Web writing has exploded. Just by writing simple articles of around 500 words, you can make a great income.
Luckily for us, most writers are still unaware of Web writing - they think it's complex, or technical. This means that Web writers are building great businesses, because the demand for competent Web writers is out-stripping the supply.
Web writing is not technical at all. If you can write an email message, you can write for the Web.
Here's what a subscriber to my Sell Your Writing Online NOW (SYWON) said:
"I was so nervous about doing this. Me? Create a Web site? But I just followed along, and I just got my first order for a package of articles! My customer just contacted me, paid via PayPal, and I just sent him the articles. It was so easy."
I created the 52-week training program of Sell Your Writing Online NOW to help writers to get started in Web writing simply and easily, and to build great careers. When you complete the training, your knowledge and expertise will enable you to charge $250 an hour for your writing services.
SYWON's charter subscriptions are ending: subscribe now
All SYWON subscribers have free access to me at any time. I charge $300 an hour for coaching, so this an excellent opportunity for you to have a mentor as you write.
I'll be closing the charter subscription option offer within a few days, so if you'd still like a charter subscription, take action now.
Great new goodies for SYWON subscribers - completely free
I'm developing a range of hour-long teleseminars on Web writing, starting with article writing. Not only will SYWON subscribers have free access to all seminars, they'll also be able to download the MP3 audios and PDF transcriptions for free too.
Other Web writing products I develop will also be free to subscribers. So your SYWON subscription is highly valuable, especially at the charter rate.
See you on SYWON. :-)

Private Label Rights (PLR) content is becoming hot with freelance writers. It's a great way to earn a dollar a word with your Web writing.
To help you to get started with PLR this week's article in Fab Freelance Writing Ezine is "How to Create and Sell PLR Articles".
Here's an excerpt:
Private Label Rights (PLR) content is hugely popular online. Many Web site owners use PLR content to get new sites off to a quick start, or to create additional pages on their older sites, so that they'll get more search engine traffic.Read the rest in Wednesday's issue. So since there's a good market for PLR, this means that creating PLR is a good way to boost your freelance writing income.

Confused about writing "for free" and writing for pay on the Web?
Here's part of a message I received this week (published with permission):
I don't see how a serious writer can make money writing articles for the Web, when there are so many sites that want content for free.
Here's my response:
Writing articles online is VERY lucrative. There are many "for pay" venues and with the competition for content hotting up as many print publications move online, some venues pay as much for Web articles as they do for print.
If you want to be paid to write articles, there are limitless opportunities to do that, but before you start, spend time getting to know the online world. There are free venues, and there are for-pay options and you must know the difference.
Writing articles for pay - find venues which appeal to you
Many sites are looking for competent writers. Find them - it's not difficult.
In addition to selling your articles to sites, there are many other options for you for writing articles for pay online, too.
One is marketing your articles yourself, and selling them as Private Label Rights Content.
Another option is collecting a batch of articles, creating a Web site with them, and then selling the site.
And yet another option is offering article-writing services from your own Web site.
There are many, many ways in which you can make money writing articles on the Web. You need to spend some time assessing venues however.
You're not in competition with "free" article venues
As a writer, you're not in competition with venues which accept articles written for "free." If you investigate most of these venues, they're article directories, on which business people post articles as marketing for services and products.
You may eventually use some of these venues yourself as a marketing tool.
If you want to write articles for pay, please realize that your opportunities are endless: content has been called "king" online, and that's very true. However, you do need to spend time orienting yourself, and getting to know the online environment.
For a competent writer, the online world is a place of limitless opportunities. Spend time exploring and discovering these opportunities for yourself. If you're completely new to writing articles for the Web, my Cash For Content primer is an excellent resource.

If you can write articles, you can make money online.
Many new writers are already discovering this - they join one of the ubiquitous content networks advertising on a myriad of sites trumpeting: "Make money writing now".
While you can certainly write for these venues there's a major challenge, and it's this: minimal or low pay.
You can write for these minimal pay venues if you're just starting out, but if you've been published in newspapers and magazines, you should be making print publication rates for your articles - a dollar a word.
Get familiar with the online marketplace so you know what you're selling
On the Web, you need to know what you're selling, who the buyers are, and what they intend doing with your content.
This experience takes a little time to acquire. You can shortcut the learning process with my ebook "Beat Your Paycheck! Web Writing SECRETS."

Yes, Web writing is easy and if you know what you're doing the pay is great, but there are some dangers - from scammers, and from self-sabotage.
Here's the intro to "5 Dangers of Writing for the Web":
It's been said that online no one knows you're a dog – and when you consider all the fraudulent spam emails you receive, you know it's true.Read the rest on Wednesday. When someone contacts you to write for them (or you respond to an ad or a Request For Proposals) you have no idea who they are. They may be legitimate – on the other hand, they may not.
The anonymity of the Web brings out the worst in some people, but as a writer, you're not anonymous: you're conducting your business, and your reputation is gold to you. Fraudsters and scammers trade on this: they know that you have your reputation to protect, and manipulate you using that knowledge.
