Become a writer/ publisher and get complete control of your words

The rush from print to the Web has become a stampede. As more print publications ramp up their online offerings, paying attention to what's happening on the Web is vital for all writers, whether you write nonfiction or fiction.

Online, words are gold.

Online, words are classified as "content", and as a writer, you're content-producer.

Perhaps you've heard the expression "content is king."

It is. As stated, your words are gold online.

Think about it. If your words are valuable to others online, they're even more valuable to you.

I've been recommending blogging to you on this blog and elsewhere for several years. I hope you've taken that advice. Over time, your blog will become a valuable property, earning income for you.

Blogging is a simple way of becoming a writer/ publisher and getting complete control of your words, and the income those words produce.

Make money writing Web sites - become a writer/ publisher
If you can use a word processor, you can write Web sites.

Many writers shy away from creating Web sites... they imagine it's too techy, too complex. It's not. A small simple site can begin earning money for you very quickly. As a rule of thumb, if you've created a site in an area in which there are advertisers you can start earning five to ten dollars a day per site.

Now $10 a day isn't much. But what if you had ten sites all earning $10 day? That's $100 a day, which is $36,500 a year, just from ten simple sites. What if you had 20 such sites, all earning you $10 a day - or even more - in fact, some sites will earn you $100 a day? "Super-Fast Money-Making Web Sites For Writers: Join The Web-Publishing Bonanza" shows you how.

Writing Web sites and developing online real estate - become a publisher

Many freelance writers are jumping onto the "Web real estate" publishing trend. Essentially, it means that you're a publisher, but instead of creating magazines or books, you're creating Web sites.

"Building an Online Empire: 16 Types of Websites You Can Create for Profit" has an excellent outline of the many, many different kinds of sites you can create.

The kinds of site YOU can create depend on your own interests.

Why create Web sites?

Essentially, it's so you can make money from your writing skills. You can monetize the Web sites you create in many ways. You can also create small sites and sell them.

A Web site has a value; several writing colleagues have switched from writing for magazines to writing Web sites - they're making more income than they did from writing for magazines.

How much money? Sites with minimal content sell for $5000 to $10,000, especially if they've been online for a few months and have started to generate income. People want to buy a site for various reasons, and buying a site which is already online has powerful benefits for search engine traffic.

How to create Web sites if you're not a geek

Many writers baulk at the idea of creating Web sites. It sounds difficult. However, if you can use a word processor, you can create Web sites.

My ebook package "Super-Fast Money-Making Web Sites For Writers: Join The Web-Publishing Bonanza" shows you the benefits of creating fast Web sites, including:

* It's very profitable - what could you do with an extra $10 a day... an extra $100 a day... or an extra $300 a day?

* Any writer can write money-making Web sites, even beginning writers;

* As a writer, you have skills that parlay directly into creating Web sites - it's very much like writing a series of articles.

In addition to generating income, writing your own Web sites is a lot of fun. If you're bored with the writing you're doing now, I encourage you to give it a try.

Giggle of the Day: type-in domains, oh the horror

Cute "the sky is falling" story at Publishing 2.0 about type-ins/ parked domains. As dozens of commenters have pointed out, there's nothing new about this. What's tragic is that this practice is just coming to the attention of someone from the world of traditional publishing.

If you're an author, you've got to laugh at the outrage in this story -- and feel some grim satisfaction.

From an author's point of view traditional publishing has been broken for decades. A traditional publisher aims to publish as many books as possible, hoping to make back their investment. This is at the expense of authors, who unknowingly in many cases, subsidize publishers. An author trusts a publisher to make the most of his words, whereas the publisher just wants a fast return on investment.

The Internet has leveled the playing field for authors/ writers AND publishers. If you're a writer, you no longer need traditional publishers: you get to sink or swim on your own, and so do they.

Online Trash and Treasure: Cash in

Intriguing article in the NYT “Online Auteurs Hardly Need to Be Famous” on the boom in DIY-media:

Increasingly, the new, new thing in media is getting paid for the homemade. Reflecting the surge in the popularity of user-created material, both online and traditional media companies are opening their wallets to make sure that the best of it finds its way onto their television shows and Web sites.

What are you waiting for -- get out there and earn. :-)

I'm so proud! (Brag time) Liz's Info Product Idea Generator System

I'm so proud when one of my students uses the info in my courses and books and creates a new product, or begins a successful new career.

Huge kudos and congrats to Liz Feeney who's created a new product for writers and Web publishers, The Info Product Idea Generator System.

Liz
understands the Web publishing revolution and she's created a superb tool to help other writers get started in Web publishing too.

I haven't had a chance to read it yet, but I'll looking forward to it and will post a review when I do.
Way to go, Liz! :-)

The (secret-to-many writers) Web publishing revolution

In response to a lack of understanding about Web publishing, I'm writing a new series of articles for Pro Write about monetizing your Web sites -- about the Web publishing revolution.

The first article in the series will be online shortly.

The Web publishing revolution is a deep dark secret to many (most?) writers, it seems.

I've been posting on this blog recently about online writing, how you can make money as a writer by:

*
writing for the online market (HUGE, hidden);

* creating your own Web sites and monetizing them. (An alien concept for many writers. :-))

I couldn't believe the HUH??? expressions I'm getting from writers in response to my Web publishing/ online writing posts. :-)

Then I took time to mull it over. Why can't (most) writers recognize what's in front of their noses -- or on their computer screens, anyway? I think it's because many writers see one way of writing -- for others -- and don't realize that they can make MUCH more money writing for themselves by creating Web sites and monetizing them. And also, they have no idea about the amount of money that
Web publishers make, ARE MAKING, essentially by writing -- by monetizing Web sites.

Hence, the new Pro Write series. I'll post a little more about the series once the first article is online.
